Benefits of Hypnotherapy for Teens

Kids go through a lot during their teenage years, and with all of their trials and tribulations they may have a hard time overcoming them. Hypnotherapy might be the answer you’re looking for to help them through their challenges.

When it comes to hypnosis, teens can achieve positive results using their imagination, flexible and unbiased attitude towards life, and their willingness to accept the positive suggestions to get better, which is carried on into adulthood.

While I have previously covered the why of hypnotherapy for teens, it didn’t really cover the how of it. Feel free to share both my previous article and this one with other parents or teens you may know.

Good Reasons to Help Your Teen Via Hypnotherapy:

  • They are having sleep issues, frequent nightmares, sleep walking, or getting to or returning to sleep
  • They lose things on a consistent basis, steal, or have nervous headaches or stomach-aches
  • They have formed habits such as nail biting, eyelash or hair pulling, thumb sucking, or other nervous actions
  • They have common fears you find in adults and children, such as being afraid of the dark, going to sleep, being alone, bedtime fears, snakes, spiders, dogs, and social situations
  • They’re having school problems, ADHD, hyperactivity, a loss of focus, shyness, difficulty with peers, trouble concentrating, making new friends, handling bullies, and adjusting to a new school
  • They’re not doing well developing their sense of self-esteem, self-confidence, athletic performance, and public speaking skills
  • They face interpersonal challenges, discomfort with peers, frustration with parents or siblings, and anger issues
  • They have chronic medical and health issues, digestive problems, headaches, preparing for surgery, side effects of chemotherapy, and difficulty taking medicine

Many other symptoms in teens that hypnotherapy can address and help out with can be found in the list of symptoms on my website. Below are some of the most frequently treated symptoms that I have found hypnotherapy to be the most effective at when it comes to helping teens.

Teenage Depression

If you suspect your teenager has depression, be sure they are properly diagnosed and treated with possible medication and/or psychiatric treatment. Hypnotherapy can help to work alongside the medical treatment and bring benefits to the healing process.

Depression affects a teenager’s mind and body in many ways. It is a subconscious, automatic, and emotional state of being, typically characterized with feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and a complete loss of control. A teenager’s brain is still developing so their resources are limited when it comes to dealing with distressing and confusing states of being, which they have little or no conscious control over.

Hypnotherapy can help guide a depressed teenager toward achieving self-awareness of their symptoms. It can enable them to be mindful in redirecting their attention to rebalance their fluctuations in mood. By recognizing their thought patterns that lead them into a depressed state, they can use hypnotic and mindfulness techniques to interrupt, challenge, and change their negative feelings and thoughts.

Teenage Anxiety

A lot of anxieties that are prominent in teens are typically associated with major life changes. Anxiety can develop in the late teen years and last into early adulthood, and if not treated during that time it can become a lifelong and debilitating state. Negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, avoidance behaviours, and low self-esteem become barriers for an anxious teen from exploring their potential and taking on adult responsibility for themselves. Anxiety is unfortunately seen as a weakness or flaw in adulthood, so this takes away a teen’s confidence and undermines their relationships, education, and career development.

Hypnotherapy gives the anxious teen a toolbox full of techniques and strategies as a lifelong benefit to an anxiety sufferer. Hypnosis can be used to access cognitive resources, such as relaxation and mindfulness, to help teens gain perspective and relieve stress to manage their anxiety.

Self-Confidence

During their formative years, teens are exposed to disappointment, failure, and rejection, all of which can impact emotional development and expectations of themselves which can affect them for life. Low self-worth and a lack of confidence can create limiting beliefs and negative thoughts, affecting big decisions young adults must make in their near future.

Teens can suffer with a negative self-image or struggle to make friends and approach life with confidence and fascination. Hypnotherapy can help them achieve transformation into the best self they are capable of being and recognize and value their self-worth.

The subconscious shelters critical thinking and negative feelings about who we think we are and many of these core beliefs are established during the adolescent years. Hypnotherapy can nurture confidence by helping them to take control of their symptoms of negative thoughts and feelings, which include behavioural problems like anger, OCD, self-harm, habits, addictions and eating disorders, and social, sexual, family, and relationship issues.

If you are the parent or guardian of a teenager whose life is filled with these symptoms, and you want them to become the best adult they can be, there’s no harm in considering hypnotherapy for them. It could be exactly what your teen needs.
